Balatro Is Getting Its First Major Update


One of the most popular releases of the year so far is the roguelike deck builder hit Balatro. Although it had some teething problems on the Switch (including temporary removal from the eShop), it has since bounced back and has sold over one million copies across all platforms.

Now, it looks like this surprise hit will be getting its first major update. Its At the moment it is only confirmed for PC, but a console release is expected to follow. This new update (upping the game to version 1.0.1) will bring some new functions, changes, buffs and fixes.

Balatro – Version 1.0.1 Patch Notes:

  • Added toggle for 'Reduced Motion', removed swirling background and rotating card motion.
  • Changed default fallback tarot from Fool to Strength (when all tarots are on screen)
  • Changed the random seeds for Gold Stakes – now ensures that the first Legendary Joker at that seed is a joker you have not won with on Gold Stakes (for Completionist++ victims).
  • Pre-scaling converted to white stake:
    • Ex 3: 2800 -> 2000
    • Ex 4: 6000 -> 5000
  • Pre-scaling in green share changed:
    • Ex 2: 1000 -> 900
    • Ex 3: 3200 -> 2400
    • Ex 4: 9000 -> 7000
  • Pre-scaling in purple stake changed:
    • Ex 2: 1200 -> 1000
    • Ex 3: 3600 -> 3000
    • Ex 4: 10000 -> 8000
    • Ex 5: 25000 -> 22000
  • orange stake replaced
    • Rising cost of packs canceled
    • Added new 'Perishable' mechanic, Jokers have a 30% chance of having a 'Perishable' sticker, causing them to be incapacitated after 5 rounds.

    • Scrap-1 hand size
    • Added new 'Rental' mechanic, Jokers have a 30% chance of getting a 'Rental' sticker (stacks with Eternal/Perishable), costing them $1 the first round and $3 each round.
  • Changed the eternal to apply to jokers in buffoon packs.
  • Changed the first shop every time to always include the generic buffoon pack as one of the pack options
  • Upcoming blinds/tags can now be seen in the shop immediately after defeating/cashing out the boss blind
  • Some blinds are now banned on Challenge Run – Crimson Heart, Verdant Leaf and Amber Acorn are banned on 'Jokerless' – Verdant Leaf is banned on 'Typecast' – 'Non-Perishable' Verdant Leaf Is Banned On – The Plant Is Banned On 'Mad World'

    • Now gives +3 multi instead of +2 multi for strats
  • buffed neptune
    • Now gives +4 multi instead of +3 multi for straight flush
  • buffed eris
    • Now gives +50 chips for flush five instead of +40 chips
  • buffed ceres
    • Now gives +4 multi instead of +3 multi for flush house
  • Uncommon tag changed – Uncommon joker is now free
  • Rare tag changed – Rare Joker is now free
  • Negative, Polychrome, Holo, Foil tags all create their respective clowns free
  • Change the investment and give 25 dollars instead of 15 dollars.
  • 8 Ball changed – old effect eliminated, new effect -> 1 in 4 chance of generating a Tarot when any played 8 is scored.
  • Changed Blue Seal – now creates the planet card of the last poker hand played during the round
  • Both Crazy and Clever Jokers were changed – 'contains 4 of a kind' effect has been removed, now applied to any hand that contains 'two pairs'
  • Yorick changed – old effect eliminated, new effect -> gains x1 multi every 23 cards discarded (starts at x1)
  • Magician Tarot changed – Lucky is now applied to 2 cards instead of 1
  • Midas Mask changed – Gold enhancement now only applies to scoring face cards, cost was $7 to $6.

    • Now only removes enhancements from scoring cards
    • Gives X0.1 multi per enhancement instead of X0.2 multi

  • Changed Madness – now only applies to small/big blind, not boss blind selection
  • Task list changes – Poker hand no longer changes on payout, always changes at the end of the round (no longer stuck on straight flush).
  • Changed description of the shortcut to include a more appropriate example (10 8 6 5 3)
  • Ancient Joker changed – selected suit is no longer able to repeat between rounds
  • Swashbuckler changed – now the selling price of all other jokers is added to the multi, not just the jokers on the left
  • Changed Hanging Chad – now retriggers the first played card 2 times instead of 1
  • Changed Flower Pot – now includes the base suit of a debuffed card when determining whether it will trigger or not
  • Changed Bootstrap to include current multi bonus in description
  • Changed all 4 sinister jokers (one for each suit) – they now give +3 multi per suit instead of +4 multi each
  • Changed banner – now gives +30 chips per remaining discard instead of +40 chips
  • Converted Fibonacci – Costs $7 instead of $8, because Fibonacci
  • Changed Steel Joker – now gives X0.2 multi per Steel card instead of X0.25 multi in full deck
  • Odd Toads changed – now gives +31 chips per odd ranked card instead of +30 chips
  • Changed Sixth Sense – now uncommon and $6, was rare
  • Changed Hiker – now gives +5 chips instead of +4 chips on each scoring card played
  • Changed Gros Michel – now has a chance of extinction of 1 in 6 instead of 1 in 4
  • Changed scene – now uncommon and $6, was rare and $7
  • Riff-Raff changed – now $6, was $4

    • $8 was $6
    • This applies if you have $4 or less, $3 or less
  • Cloud 9 changed – now $7, was $6
  • Change in mail-in rebate – now $5 was $3
  • Changed reserved parking – now normal, was unusual
  • Lucky Cat changed – now X0.25 profit per Lucky purchase, up from X0.2
  • Changed trading card – now worth $6, was $5
  • Changed Campfire – now gives X0.25 profit per card sold, up from X0.5
  • Changed smiley faces – now give +5 multi per face card, was +4 multi
  • Golden Ticket changed – now pays $4 per Gold Card played, up from $3
  • Changed Bloodstone – now has 1 in 2 chance for purchase, was 1 in 3
  • Onyx Agate changed – now gives +7 multi per club card, previously was +8 multi
  • Changed Glass Joker – now gives X0.75 multi per Glass card destroyed, up from X0.5 multi
  • Stuntman changed – now gives +250 chips, was +300
  • Invisible Joker changed – now requires 2 rounds and costs $8, previously was 3 rounds and $10
  • Changed Burnt Joker – now rare, was uncommon
  • The wording of most scalping jokers has been changed to refer to 'this joker'
  • Fixed a bug where opening booster packs with a hand size of 0 was not skippable.
  • Fixed a bug where cards generated by 'Certificate' were not being debuffed by the boss.
